There is so many things wrong with this I don\'t even know where to begin in listing them.
I wanted to go for realism but now I actually hate this. Some parts don\'t look vexeled, but I can assure you every last bit of this image is. I followed the posterization guide too closely in places and now it looks choppy. In other places I didn't follow it closely enough. I don't know. I actually kinda hate this. The underneath layers of the hair really suck - I wanted it too look smooth but I've done too many transition layers and now it looks like an out of focus photograph. Meh. Oh well, I'm going to quit complaining - maybe it'll grow on me.
Oh, and as I'm sure you know it is near impossible to find pictures from this photoshoot in large sizes. I had to upsize it a whole damn lot and, well, I suck at making things up as I go along so the bits that should be detailed really aren't.
Time: About 2 weeks on and off.
Layers: Far too many. I had to merge so many times because my poor little computer couldn't handle it.
Original: [link]
Method: Photoshop CS2 & Pen tool.
Critique it all you want - I\'m not changing a damn thing
The smaller version really does look like a photograph. I know nothing at all about vexels though so I can't really make a proper comment/critique. All I know is it's loads better than anything I could ever do. Plus in striving for perfection you can always have a challenge and improve your skills, so maybe it's a good thing that you don't like it...
I was going for a more realistic look with this one, so that's a good thing in my opinion. If the smaller one at least looks like a photograph then I'm partially there with what I was trying to achieve.
My main reason for disliking it is just down to having been looking at it for so long.

When I first opened this I thought you had just uploaded the original picture!! That photoshoot is fantastic, and I think you did a wonderful job drawing it with the low quality picture that you had to begin with. No matter what you may think, I think it looks great!!

The butter legion- a socialist movement/mass colab project I started, to trigger artistic change and evolution in Da artists (mainly my watchers), to make them more active and dedicated on DA. Now 170 people strong and growing... A "dangerous cult"? a "new religion"? "artistic version of fight club" or "communist movement"? You decide!
Hello there! This news article is the result of a thumb share thread I posted few days ago on the dA forum along with pictures from my favorites. I hope you enjoy them.
